The BALTIC MOVEMENT CONTEST 2010

a contest for a short contemporary dance solo from the field of broadly understood contemporary dance
(contemporary dance / contemporary ballet)

The International BALTIC MOVEMENT CONTEST 2010 will take place during the Gdansk Dance Festival 2010. The contest is aimed at contemporary dance artists from the European countries. The Contest aims at supporting and promoting contemporary dance in Europe. The Contests is open for dancers of contemporary dance (contemporary dance / contemporary ballet) from European countries who have at least 3 years of artistic activity or/and are professional dancers with a diploma of dance studies. Participation in the contest for a short contemporary dance solo is permitted for solos that are autonomous solo performances or that are solo parts of a larger contemporary dance performance, the premiere of which took place between 1st January 2008 and 25th April 2010. The solo should not be shorter than 6 minutes and not longer than 20 minutes.

The deadline for applications is 30th April 2010 (see details in the regulations of the Contest - website www.gdanskdancefest.pl – NOTE: the date of arrival of the application to Club Zak is decisive).

The preselection and the final part of the BALTIC MOVEMENT CONTEST 2010 will take place during the Gdansk Dance Festival between 14th – 27th June 2010. There will be maximum 12 finalists chosen by the Jury. One dancer can submit a maximum of two short solo pieces/solo parts from a larger performance.

Solo pieces and solo parts will be judged by an international jury composed of 5 (or 3) members. The Jury will carry out the preselection and then will judge the finalists. The organiser will invite to the Jury curators of international dance festivals, personages from the artistic world, and experts in the field of contemporary dance. The composition of the jury will be officially presented on the 12th April 2010 on the website www.gdanskdancefest.pl. The Jury will judge the solos for their artistic value, technical level and originality, awareness of the performance space, dramaturgy of the choreography. In the Contest there are to be 3 prizes: 1st prizes: 3.000 EUR, 2nd prize: 2.000 EUR and 3rd prize: 1.000 EUR.
