Keiju (Fairy) by Karttunen Kollektiv and Joona Halonen’s choreography Whispering Cosmos visit Shanghai. Whispering Cosmos is in Shanghai from December 7 to 9, 2011 at the Dans Storm festival. Fairy will be performed on December 10 at the Shanghai Grand Theatre.
The visit of Whispering Cosmos is a continuation to the project started by Dance Info Finland in 2010. The visit to Shanghai in 2011 is supported by Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and Dance Info Finland in co-operation with Zodiak – Center for New Dance.
Whispering Cosmos is a sensitive but powerful work that brings four dancers and their four temperaments to stage. It poses fundamental questions of the body and its experiences. Performers carry and experience time each in their own unique way. The dancers are Joona Halonen, Mirva Mäkinen, Reija Wäre and Saara Hurme. This piece premiered at Zodiak in spring 2009 and has since toured in Finland and abroad. In addition, workshop collaboration will take place with the local dance and media university.
Keiju is a dance work for all ages disguised as a fairytale. Keiju (a Finnish word meaning a fairy) is an ambiguous character who has been catapulted into a timeless no man’s land between the world of flowers and everyday reality without being able to hold on to either. The work attempts to strike a balance between ambitious, serious dance expression and lovable nonsense.
