A new production by contemporary dance choreographer Satu Tuomisto has been chosen to showcase at the international contemporary dance and performance art festival Springdance in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Vimmaa (Frenzy) will be premiered in Finland in Oulu City Theatre in September 2012. Vimmaa is produced by JoJo – Oulu Dance Centre, Oulu City Theatre and Satu Tuomisto.
Satu Tuomisto stretches the limits of contemporary dance by combining different forms of music, motion, expression and arts in order to provide the audience with emotional and kinetic experiences. Originally from Helsinki, Tuomisto graduated from London Middlesex University in 2000 and was recently appointed as the Artistic Director of JoJo – Oulu Dance Centre. The latest productions include Lähellä (Close) for the Finnish National Ballet premiered in the Finnish National Opera on September 9, 2011 (music by Jukka Poika and Selecta Andor) and Keittiönpöydällä (On The Kitchen Table) with Mariska and Pahat Sudet Orchestra (produced by Zodiak in 2011).
The 28 edition of Springdance will take place in Utrecht from April 19 to 29. This year the festival focuses on dance and the visual arts. The festival presents fresh new and influential performances by innovative choreographers and young talents from various countries. The opening show will be The Rodin Project by Russell Maliphant, inspired by the legendary French sculptor Rodin.
Satu Tuomisto will visit Springdance as part of Europe in Motion in partnership with Dance4.
