The program of the CODA Oslo International Dance Festival includes the piece Mahti – Mighty by Tsuumi Dance Company and the piece Viita by Ervi Sirén. CODA 2011 is held from October 10 to October 23. This is the 7th CODA festival.
Mahti – Mighty by Tsuumi Dance Company is a dance theatre performance that draws from the mythical world of Kalevala. Mighty is a picture of Finnish love.
The performance is presented in collaboration with Riksscenen – The Norwegian Hub for Traditional Music and Dance. It is supported by the Finnish-Norwegian Culture Institute, the Norwegian-Finnish Culture Fund and the Helsinki City Cultural Centre in Finland.
Viita by Ervi Sirén is a celebration of femininity, vitality and the art of dancing. Sirén is performing herself in Viita. The production is by Zodiak – Center for New Dance and Ervi Sirén. The performance is presented in collaboration with Dansens Hus Norway and it is supported by the Finnish-Norwegian Cultural Foundation.
Choreographer and dancer from Tsuumi Dance Company, Samuli Nordberg, will lead a workshop on October 12 with the theme folk dance in choreography. The workshop will for example focus on the question ”Is it possible to stage traditional dance professionally on stage?”
The workshop is arranged in collaboration with Riksscenen – The Norwegian Hub for Traditional Music and Dance. It is supported by the Finnish-Norwegian Culture Institute, the Norwegian-Finnish Culture Fund and the Helsinki City Cultural Centre in Finland
