Michaela the Queen of Fucking Everything A.K.A. Laura – The Light of All, alias Laura Pietilӓinen

‘My power figure, who radiates the energy of the universe, does what she wants´
‘Play and daftness are immeasurably important inner resources,’ according to dance artist Laura Pietilӓinen. ‘A lack of humour hardens and shackles energy.’
Laura Pietilӓinen’s kinetic roots are to be found in competitive rhythmic gymnastics. While the world of gymnastics was centered on the deficiencies of body and mind, dance opened the doors to a deeper level. ‘It’s only as a dancer and choreographer that I’ve found a route to enable me to draw from my soul freely. I’m on my way into even greater depths in order to render internal energies visible,’ the dance artist explains.
When this article was written for the Finnish Dance in Focus magazine in 2020, and since 2016, Pietilӓinen has created art through Michaela the Queen of Fucking Everything, the power figure of her soul. This anarchic alter ego gives the dance artist the power to unshackle herself on stage and in video installations, and to be able to be her free, natural self.
Michaela’s figure doesn’t kowtow, belittle herself or find fault; instead, she’s a warrior and a star that radiates energy. ‘Through Michaela, I’m linked to the immense, empowering energies of the universe and the visions that spring from them.’
Nowadays she uses the pseudonym Laura – The Light of All – and has charmed and baffled as a choreographer and dancer for example in the work Blondes, which had its premier at Zodiak in 2018. The production drew its power from the internal bimbo and playing the fool. The choreography is a reworked version of Paula Tuovinen’s solo piece Blonde (2000), now performed by Laura – The Light of All and Go Go Dance Group Hot Tubes, and it was selected by Aerowaves for the Twenty21 artists list.
Apart from the cosmic energies flowing within a human being, Michaela the Queen of Fucking Everything / Laura – The Light of All is also inspired by scents, music, crystals and fashion. ‘I’d like to increase my work with fashion designers in the near future and I’m also intrigued by the world of music videos.’
