Her work is characterised by a sense of community and the breaking down of hierarchies
The jury of the State Award for Public Information notes that Lindfors has been doing impressive and responsible communication work for many years through her multidisciplinary artistic projects. Her work is characterised by a sense of community and the breaking down of hierarchies. In her practice, she has consistently sought new ways of working, new places for action, and new forms of activism.
In all her positions Lindfors pursues creating and facilitating anti-racist and feminist platforms, where a festival, a performance, a publication or a workshop can operate as the site of empowerment and radical collective dreaming.
Lindfors’ latest works, for example We Should All Be Dreaming, camouflage and Soft Variations centralize questions around blackness and black body politics, representation and power structures, speculative futurieties and decolonial dreaming practices.
Before this, Sonya Lindfors has been awarded with several other prizes, among others the international Live art ANTI Prize 2018. During the season 2017 – 2018 Lindfors was the house choreographer for Zodiak – center for new dance.
State Awards for Public Information have been granted since 1968. Awards are granted for major information publication work in the field of scientific, artistic and technological information dissemination that has increased citizens’ knowledge and stimulated societal debate.
