Susanna Leinonen Company’s Nasty tours Sweden in exceptional circumstances
The tour is the result of a collaboration between Susanna Leinonen Company and Dansnät Sverige.
Susanna Leinonen Company producer Tinja Nieminen comments on being on tour during a pandemic as a special experience: “Travelling after a break of almost a year feels exciting. We are glad to be able to perform despite the exceptional circumstances. The situation is challenging and we have agreed with the group that everyone is free to choose whether to participate in the tour. The safety comes first.”
Special attention is paid to the conditions of the dancers during the tour. Travelling to Sweden is done on direct flights and private buses transport dancers between venues. The dancers stay in their own rooms and extra contacts are avoided. In addition to the dance group, only producers and technical professionals are present at the venues. In Sweden, the audience is limited to 50 people.
In Gothenburg, at the Stora Teatern NASTY was the audience’s wish and the performances were sold out. According to Nieminen, the feedback on the performances was positive and encouraging, which motivated them to continue the tour. The authorities’ guidance between the two countries makes the situation particularly challenging, as the situation with pandemic is constantly changing. “In addition to the original plan, alternative plans must also be made”, says Nieminen. Due to new restrictions in Sweden, at least one scheduled gig was canceled, causing additional travel arrangements.
At the same time as touring Sweden Susanna Leinonen Company performs with their new work TOXIC in Louhi hall, Espoo, Finland. TOXIC world´s premiere was in October 2020.
