Dance Theatre MD: Sisters & Brothers

Dance Theatre|Contemporary dance

The last two parts of Alpo Aaltokoski's trilogy

Completing Alpo Aaltokoski’s trilogy beginning with Together (2010) and Brothers (2017), Sisters continues an expedition into movement, dealing with the subjects of shared motion and personal connections, the deeper aspects of being together and the pain of separation. Merging dance with Estonian composer Arvo Pärt’s piano concerto Für Alina, Aaltokoski creates a temporal and emotional framework for dancers Elina Jakowleva and Mari Rosendahl.

Brothers, choreographed for three male dancers, is a continuation of the voyage of discovery that began in a working process that started with the Together duet – premiered in 2010 – on the theme of making our way together.

It is about the connection between people, the profound importance of being together and, conversely, about pain of receding. In sharing and giving up the individual for the communal, something bigger emerges.
