Eeva Juutinen and working group: EMO
Performance
Choreographer Eeva Juutinen and the working group’s performance EMO moves between expressionism’s expansion and richness and minimalism’s detail and condensation.
Choreographer Eeva Juutinen and the working group’s performance EMO is a character and entity reflecting, fragmenting and living its own character which is inspired of intensity and intimacy in emptiness and silence in time, performativity and theatre space. EMO’s receptivity, gaze, breath, poetry and materials create feelings through sensibility and opposites such as continuity and change, form and experience, shared and divided, splendor and creepiness.
EMO mixes expressionism and minimalism. The work moves between expressionism’s expansion and richness and minimalism’s detail and condensation. It researches on how expression and being constructs and materializes through these two extreme and opposite ways of relating to the inner world and to the existence of it, and mixes them. Through working with them the work is interested in the problematics, defined and undefined of construction of bodily identities.
An ability to control ones own feelings, which in one way can be very desirable, can from another point of view be a very questionable achievement, because it can take away variability, color and warmth from peoples mutual interactions.
– Carl Jung
EMO creates composition inspired by surrealism, subconscious and symbols in which control and uncontrollability vary. It makes space for incomprehensibility and escapes readymade logics, definitions and expectations by mixing sensibility and difference. For EMO non-life doesn’t mean death but through it it can return to different and deeper intimacy, erotic and sharing of attention with environments, itself, other people and things.
I take the flowers to the forest
Anger saves me
I only drink my own blood
I am super creep
Butterfly’s wing cast in petrol
Licks the flame
Life!!
Words press onto skin
Like eye to the surface of water
