Chasing Butterflies in Unequal Time is a new dance work by Nina Renvall and Jouni Järvenpää.

There is a thick, low mist on stage as far as eye can see. A bird cries hauntingly, somewhere far away on the other side of the brick wall. If you look further and further away, you’re looking into the past. The subconscious, running blindly in its tracksuit, is finally reaching the Age of Enlightenment. To reach today it still has centuries to run, but the premiere is much closer.

Chasing Butterflies in Unequal Time oozes all-encompassing joy of searching and a deep interest into the moment of Now. The dance embodies the wordless thinking processes. Chasing Butterflies in Unequal Time considers the motifs found through dance as rare butterflies, on which one must concentrate wholly to have a chance of keeping up with.

Järvenpää and Renvall have danced together in several of Symphony – it’s just a matter of doing it -dance spectacles, organized by Barker-theatre (2003 – 2017). At 2013 Järvenpää invited Renvall to be part of his Hell Yeah! -series.

The work has been supported by Arts Promotion Centre Finland. Järvenpää works in Chasing Butterflies in Unequal Time as a regional artist, hired by Regional Dance Center of Western Finland.

Premiere at October 3rd, 2019 in Barker-theatre, Turku.
Other perfromances at Oct. 5th, 17th, 18th, 30th, and November 2nd.
