Creative Meeting Point: Hong Kong x Finland 2016–2019 supported artistic work and artistic development and helped the emergence of collaboration between Hong Kong and Finland. The aim was to create connections on a broader basis between the Finnish and Hong Kong dance scenes, job opportunities and connections for dance artists and partnerships and capacity building for organisations.
The collaboration program was between West Kowloon Cultural District and Dance Info Finland, Zodiak – Center for New Dance and Dance House Helsinki. Dance Info Finland acted as the coordinator of the Finnish partners.
The cultural complex of West Kowloon Cultural District is being built in the Hong Kong Victoria Harbour. A house for dance and theatre (Lyric Theatre Complex) is scheduled to open in 2023. An indoor and outdoor performance space (Freespace) opened in 2019. The collaboration with Finland was the first international agreement of West Kowloon.
Three dance artists from Finland and three from Hong Kong were selected to take part in the program. The Finnish artists were Carl Knif, Linda Martikainen and Sari Palmgren. The Hong Kong artists were Justyne Li Sze-yeung, Wayson Poon Wai-shun and Ivy Tsui Yik-chit.
Six residency periods were arranged in 2017 and 2018, three in Hong Kong and three in Finland.
