Art Ii Biennial: Call for Carbon Neutral and Carbon Sink Projects (Finland)

Art Ii Biennial will take place 10-14 June 2020 in the Northern Ostrobothnia region of Finland.

The organisers are inviting artists to formulate ideas and experiments for carbon-neutral artistic productions and projects that create carbon sinks in Ii, a municipality well-known for its ambitious climate aims.

The organisers welcome proposals from environmental artists, media artists, community artists and art-science collectives: the media of the art is not limited. The biennial has a focus on social engagement, which refers to many kinds of participatory approaches. Artists can collaborate with local communities, facilitate dialogical processes, create interactive pieces, and engage with global audiences through media. The public space in Ii is the art venue: the biennial will work in a variety of parks and some artworks can be presented indoors.

This call for artists is open for artists living and working in Finland or abroad; artists are welcome to arrive by bus, train or boat. The organisers cover production and travel costs up to 2000 euros in total per selected artist or artist collective. Accommodation is offered in Ii during the Biennial. There is also a possibility of a residency period at the KulttuuriKauppila artist residency for extended stays related to community projects. The results of the projects will be presented at the Art Ii Biennial between 10-14 June 2020.

Deadline: 29 February 2020
