CURRENT: Open Call for International Festival of Art in Urban Space (Germany)

CURRENT is an international festival for art in urban space. The first edition will take place in Stuttgart in September 2021. Installations, performances, discussions and workshops set out to explore the connection between art, architecture, and urban planning.

In its first edition, CURRENT dedicates itself to the porosity of, or in the city. The festival, therefore, focuses on breaks in urban planning, the unforeseen, the experimental, or urban appropriations. Selected contemporary artists will use various formats to respond to specific situations in urban space.

Proposals are welcome that address the thematic focus of porosity – in the context of the city, public space, as well as its relevance for an experimental and critical engagement with the urban. Invited, are artists from the fields of the visual arts, literature, audio-visual media and performance.

The curatorial team invites applications from collectives as well as individual artists whose work deals intensively with urban space to engage in a close exchange with neighbourhoods in Stuttgart. Within discourse events, the relevance of artistic practices in processes of urban planning are then elaborated and further developed.

The festival can provide financial support of between 3000 and 20,000 Euros for each project. The curatorial team will decide on how much financial support will be attributed to each project.

Deadline: 27 November 2020
