Onassis Foundation: Onassis Air 2020/21: The School of Infinite Rehearsals (Greece)
Established by the Onassis Foundation in September 2019, Onassis AiR, (inter)national artistic research residency program, is a year-round program, located in Athens, that grounds its mission in commitment to supporting artistic process, towards a less-product-obsessed arts ecosystem.
For its 2020/21 artist in residency programme it is inviting applications from artists, curators, designers, activists, collectives, filmmakers, educators ’who defy the marketable academic establishments’, lawyers, performance makers, economists, agitators of institutional models, philosophers, and other practitioners who are interested in a communal exploration of two research topics: identities and ecologies.
There will be two sessions with four movements:
Autumn 2020: Identities Annihilated – Movement I & II (convened by Hypatia Vourloumis): 14 September – 25 October 2020 and 2 November – 13 Decemeber 2020.
Spring 2021: Everything Equally Evolved – Movement III & IV (convened by James Bridle): 17 February – 31 March 2021 and 7 April – 19 May 2021.
The structure of each movement will be largely defined by the selected participants. Inspired by the title of a novel by Wilson Harris, The Infinite Rehearsal, each group consisting of 5-6 participants will engage in a collective ‘rehearsal’, each bringing their own ‘instrument’ in the form of their existing practice and proposed research that clearly engages with one of the proposed research topic areas in an urgent and organic way.
Each participant will receive an individual research fee of 2500€.
Participants not living in Athens, will have their travel (airfare, train, car, etc.) covered for their return trip to/from Athens, as well as local connections.
Accommodation in a shared apartment (single room occupancy for each participant) in Athens.
Each Movement Group will have at their disposal a collective 5000€ research budget
Applications are open to participants from anywhere in the world, with no age restrictions.
Deadline: 24 April 2020
