Open call for Oulu Dance Hack 17
Oulu Dance Hack is an annual event organised by TaikaBox and Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OAMK) that brings together art, industry and education in a unique way. Artists travel from all over the world to spend a week in Northern Finland, together creating new work that integrates dance and technology. Local industries contribute their products to the project, giving artists unique opportunities to work with new technologies and adapt them to a performance context.
The teams are augmented by dance and media students from OAMK, who work alongside the professional artists, gaining valuable experience.
The first Oulu Dance Hack took place in August 2016, produced by TaikaBox in association with the OAMK School of Media and Performing Arts and JoJo – Oulu Dance Centre, with support from Isadora, BusinessOulu, Haltian and Probot. The 2017 Oulu Dance Hack will be running from 23rd to 25th August in the EduLAB and the School of Media and Performing Arts at OAMK (Kotkantie 1, 90250 Oulu). The event is organised in partnership with OAMK, with support from JoJo – Oulu Dance Centre, BusinessOulu, Delicode, Isadora, Voimala 1889 & Probot. During the event, the participants have access to 5 spacious dance studios, including a fully-equipped theatre stage and other work spaces available.
The aim of the event is to introduce artists to the use of interactive technology as a creative tool in a performance context and provide them with facilities and tools to help them delve deeper into an exploration of their creativity. The event also aims to disrupt the thinking of technology businesses with artistic interventions, allowing them to take risks and enhance their product development.
The event consists of a daily movement session, working in small groups, developing movement-based work that integrates specific tech chosen by the groups, technical and artistic mentoring, networking and a public sharing at the end of the event.
The event is free to attend, but the number of international participants is limited to 15. Free accommodation can also be provided for a limited number of applicants.
Applications are now open for places on Oulu Dance Hack 17.
Places are available for dancers, choreographers, circus artists, performance artists, performance technology specialists, stage designers, media artists, directors, in fact: anyone who is interested in learning about how technology can enhance performance.
