Open call for projets: International Competition Danse Elargie
5th edition of International Competition Danse Elargie on June 16-17, 2018.
Do you think that the doorways to theatres are too narrow? That new, wider ones should be invented? You think ten minutes to present something on stage is neither more nor less absurd than absolutely having to fill a whole hour? That under the pretext of organising a competition, it is possible to create a truly big and free happening? A chance – an open window of stage time – to change what is usually allowed? That it can even be fun? danse élargie: yes? no?
Through four editions of the competition (and in less than ten minutes, each time), we got to see: three hundred people enter then exit the stage; a badminton match played by children; three generations of Peruvians singing and recounting the story of their country; forty-three bodies poised between death and ecstasy to the airs of an opera; droves of jumpers who had previously only met on Internet; a group named nouslovechachacha; a drummer hammering away at his drum kit with sticks made of plaster; twenty-five dog-walkers; a sheep waiting his turn in the wings; alligators in conversation with Dick Rivers; a meditation workshop; dance is a dirty job but somebody’s got to do it; a TED Talk on the use of guns with the intent to shoot dancers; boxing; aerobics; a competition within the competition; not to mention the expunging of the moon in exactly ten minutes.
You think you have a good idea to occupy the space and time intelligently? And you want to defend an extended idea of dance? You want to give it a try? You are welcome, and we will be delighted to have you with us.
A MUSÉE DE LA DANSE/THÉÂTRE DE LA VILLE PROJECT.
During the repairs and renovations of the venue at Place du Châtelet, Théâtre de la Ville is setting up home at the foot of the Champs-Élysées, at the Espace Cardin. It is in this new setting that the 2018 edition of Danse élargie will take place: a smaller stage but one just as prestigious, whose history is embossed with the greatest names in performing arts, from Robert Wilson to Marlene Dietrich to, more recently, Mikhail Baryshnikov… Over to the imagination now –step up to a new challenge!
