The meaning of art residencies for the work of a dance artist
– Creative Meeting Point: Hong Kong x Finland 2016–2019

What is the significance of residencies for the artist’s work? What kind of results are expected of residencies?

Creative Meeting Point: Hong Kong x Finland 2016–2019 is an artist exchange and residency collaboration program between Finland and Hong Kong. The aim of the program is to support artists’ development and artistic work, as well as to help the artists to start co-productions and to collaborate between Finland and Hong Kong.

At the end of the program’s sixth residency period, Creative Meeting Point: Hong Kong x Finland 2016–2019 organises an open seminar on Monday 10.12.2018 at 11-16.

The seminar will present the artistic plans that have emerged during the program and will discuss the importance of residencies for dance artists.

The seminar and the discussion will be in English.

11-11:30
Presentation of Hong Kong x Finland residency program’s partners: West Kowloon Cultural District, Zodiak – Center for New Dance and Dance Info Finland

11:30-13:00
The program’s artists from Finland and Hong Kong; Carl Knif, Linda Martikainen, Sari Palmgren, Justyne Li, Wayson Poon and Ivy Tsui present the results of the program

Lunch break

13:45-14:45
The program’s artists discuss about the effects of the residency program to their own work and artistic thinking. What kind of expectations the artists had? How was the life in the residency? How different environment and cultural differences affect artists’ work in residency? The discussion will be moderated by Pirjetta Mulari (Head Cultural Producer, Annantalo).

14:45-16:00
What is the meaning and need of the services/organisations providing and funding art residencies? Discussion by Anna Cy Chan (Dance Advisor, West Kowloon Cultural District), Anna Talasniemi (Executive Director, Kone Foundation), Johanna Ruohonen (Senior Advisor, Finnish Cultural Foundation) and Harri Kuorelahti (Artistic Director of Zodiak). The discussion will be moderated by Pirjetta Mulari.
